Kanto,
a region surrounding Tokyo
In Kanto region, samurai warriors established political centers of Japan in the 12th century and in the 17th century ( ==> A History of Japan vol.2 Samurai Age ). So in this region there remain many temples, shrines and many more relating to samurai warriors.
In addition, there are fishing ports surrounded by restaurants which serve various fresh seafood dishes. Also there are Onsen hot springs.

Nikko
Nikko, in Tochigi Pref., is located in the north of Kanto region. Nikko Toshogu ( right ) enshrines Ieyasu Tokugawa, who established Tokugawa shogunate in Edo ( now Tokyo ) in A.D.1603. Nikko Toshogu is one of UNESCO World Heritage sites and so popular among many tourists.
Also in Nikko, there is Futarasan Jinja Shrine, one of UNESCO World Heritage sites. There are Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji in Nikko National Park. Also it is fun to walk around Senjo-ga-Hara, one of Ramsar Wetlands.

Mito
Mito is the capital city of Ibaraki Pref., Kanto region. Also I would like to say that Mito is the capital city of Natto ( right ) in Japan. Lots of Natto are produced and many restaurants serve various kinds of Natto dishes in Mito and its surrounding area. Natto is one of local specialty dishes.
In addition, Mito had been political center of Mito Feudal Domain through the 17th-19th century. The feudal lords of the domain were Yorifusa Tokugawa, a son of Ieyasu Tokugawa and Yorifusa's descendants. There remain gardens, shrines, temples and a school related to the feudal lords.

Kusatsu Onsen
Kusatsu Onsen ( right ), Gunma Pref., is a hot spring resort town located in the northwest of Kanto region. It has been so famous for hundreds years and is one of the most popular onsen resorts.
In Kusatsu, there are tens of sources of hot springs, which yield more than plenty of natural hot water. In the resort town, there are more than ten public baths, in addition to onsen baths owned by hotels. So Kusatsu Onsen resort town is one of the best places to enjoy Onsen hot spring entirely.
Choshi
Choshi is a city, Chiba Pref., located in the east of Kanto region. There is no famous shrine nor famous temple in the city. However in the city, there is one of the largest commercial fishing port and many restaurants which serve various seafood dishes such as boiled Kinme-dai ( splendid alfonsino - right ).
It is worth visiting and staying in Choshi just to eat various seafood dishes. On such occasions, tourists could walk around fishing ports, a lighthouse, a small temple and so on.

Kamakura
Kamakura is a city, Kanagawa Pref., located in the south of Kanto Region. Kamakura used to be the political center of Japan through the era of Kamakura Shogunate ( the end of the 12th century - early 14th century ).
Kamakura Shogunate, establised by Yoritomo Minamoto, started Samurai Age. So in Kamakura, there are many shrines and temples relating to Kamakura Shogunate and Yoritomo Minamoto as well as Daibutsu ( Great Buddha - right ). Also there are some places so famous for hydrangea flowers in the city.
